Planning a trip to Kyiv? Our team at Car-Rent.ua, a local car rental company, explains what to budget for a rental in 2026 and which conditions to check before booking.
For a short stay in Kyiv, budget from $25 per day for an economy car. For a month, selected models cost approximately $600–900, or $20–30 per day. A refundable security deposit is usually required alongside the rental payment: as a practical reference,
Car-Rent.ua’s standard deposits range from $400–700 for smaller cars and sedans, reaching $2,000 for a premium SUV.
Prices depend mainly on the vehicle, rental length and insurance package. Longer bookings usually mean lower daily rates, so check the offer for your actual dates. The figures above are October 2026 prices with basic insurance; fuel and optional services cost extra. You can compare models and
current prices for

Insurance, Deposits and Other Conditions to Know
Established Kyiv rental companies commonly offer basic insurance with a standard deposit, plus an optional protection package at a higher daily price. Basic insurance can leave you responsible for part of the cost if the car is damaged. Expanded protection reduces that exposure and may also reduce
the deposit. At Car-Rent.ua, CASCO insurance with a deductible is included in every rental, and Full Insurance leaves a $100 deposit for items such as fines or missing fuel. Coverage and exclusions vary between providers; do not assume that “full insurance” includes war-related
damage.
A few other details are worth checking before booking:
- Mileage: Car-Rent.ua includes 300 km per day or 4,800 km per month, and extra kilometres cost $0.10–0.30 each. That covers most trips: Kyiv to Lviv and back is roughly 1,100 km.
- Extra charges: at Car-Rent.ua, delivery or collection in Kyiv costs $10–25 and outside the city $25–200, returning the car in another city costs $150–250, and missing fuel is charged at $2 per litre. An additional driver and a child seat are free.
- Documents: bring your passport, your national driving licence and an International Driving Permit. Foreign drivers need the IDP in Ukraine, and it must be issued in your home country before the trip. At Car-Rent.ua, drivers must be at least 20 years old with two years of
experience; younger drivers may be accepted with a higher deposit.
Getting to Kyiv and driving under martial law
Kyiv’s airports, Boryspil and Zhuliany, still have no regular passenger flights. Ukrainian airspace has been closed to civil aviation since February 2022, and although reopening is being prepared, no date has been confirmed. Most international visitors arrive by train or bus from Poland.
Car-Rent.ua can deliver the car to the railway station or your hotel, or you can collect it at the office on Sobornosti Ave, 7A, open daily from 10:00 to 19:00.
Martial law adds a few rules to keep in mind:
- Curfew: in Kyiv city it currently runs from 01:00 to 05:00, and other regions set their own hours. Plan long drives to finish before it starts.
- Restricted areas: rental contracts forbid driving into occupied territories and active combat zones.
- Air-raid alerts: install the Air Alert app. Traffic does not stop automatically, but follow police instructions and go to a shelter if you hear explosions.
Example: a 10-day rental in Kyiv
The average rental at Car-Rent.ua lasts 10 days. For an economy car booked for that period, the bill looks like this:
- Rental: from $250 (10 days at $25).
- Delivery to your hotel and collection at the end: $20–50.
- Refundable deposit: $400–700, returned after the car is inspected.
If you stay within 3,000 km and return the car with a full tank, that is the whole cost. With Full Insurance the daily rate is higher and the deposit falls to $100.

Before you book
Our advice at Car-Rent.ua is to request one written quote showing the rental total, refundable deposit, insurance and included mileage. Confirm accepted payment methods, cancellation terms and English-speaking support before paying. A clear answer to those questions makes it much easier to choose
